The Pipes Are Calling By Loretta Murphy The Pipes Are Calling is a novel of Schuylkill County and Ireland written by Girardville native, Loretta A. Murphy. It is a contemporary romance with a historical twist that involves the Mollie Maguires, a 19th century group of impoverished Irish immigrants struggling for labor rights against the rough backdrop of the Pennsylvania hard coal industry.
Woven between the present and the past in a story that spans more than a hundred years and the wide Atlantic Ocean, it tells the true tale of the Wiggans Patch Massacre that occurred in 1875 near Mahanoy City.
